Recipe Price ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our browser extension and API service.

The short version: We collect only what's necessary to calculate recipe costs. We don't track your browsing, don't require accounts, and don't sell your data.

Information We Collect

Recipe Ingredient Data

When you view a recipe page, our extension extracts the ingredient list from the page and sends it to our API for cost calculation. This data includes:

• Ingredient names and quantities (e.g., "500g chicken breast")
• Number of servings specified in the recipe
• Your selected pricing region

We do not store this ingredient data after the calculation is complete. It is processed in real-time and discarded.

IP Address

When you make API requests, we receive your IP address. We use this solely to:

• Auto-detect your geographic region for local grocery pricing
• Prevent abuse of our free tier through rate limiting

We do not log or permanently store IP addresses. Region detection happens in real-time and the IP is not retained.

Device Identifier

The extension generates a random, anonymous device identifier (a hash) when first installed. This identifier:

• Is stored locally on your device only
• Contains no personal information
• Is used solely for free tier rate limiting (tracking monthly usage)
• Can be reset by clearing your extension storage

Usage Statistics

We track aggregate, anonymous usage counts (total API calls across all users) to monitor service health. We do not track individual user behavior, browsing history, or which recipes you view.

Information We Do NOT Collect

We want to be explicit about what we don't collect:

• Browsing history - We don't know or track which websites you visit
• Personal information - No names, emails, or addresses (free tier requires no account)
• Recipe URLs - We don't log which recipe pages you view
• Cookies - The extension does not use tracking cookies
• Analytics or telemetry - No Google Analytics, no user tracking scripts
• Page content - We only extract recipe ingredients, not full page content

How We Use Your Information

The information we collect is used exclusively to:

• Calculate recipe costs - Match ingredients to our price database
• Provide regional pricing - Show prices in your local currency
• Enforce fair usage limits - Ensure free tier sustainability
• Improve our service - Aggregate statistics help us understand overall usage patterns

Data Storage and Security

Local Storage (Extension)

The extension stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's storage API:

• Your selected pricing region preference
• Device identifier (anonymous hash)
• API key or license key (if you're a paid user)
• Monthly usage count

This data never leaves your device except when making API requests to calculate costs.

Server-Side

Our API runs on Cloudflare Workers with edge computing. Request data is processed in memory and not persisted to disk. We use Cloudflare's infrastructure security, including DDoS protection and encrypted connections (HTTPS).

Cloudflare

Groq (AI Processing)

We use Groq's LLM API to parse natural language ingredients. Ingredient text is sent to Groq for processing. See: Groq Privacy Policy

LemonSqueezy (Payments)

If you purchase a paid subscription, payment processing is handled by LemonSqueezy. We do not store or process payment card information. See: LemonSqueezy Privacy Policy

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share data only in these limited circumstances:

• Service providers - As described above (Cloudflare, Groq, LemonSqueezy) to operate our service
• Legal requirements - If required by law or to protect our rights
• Business transfer - In connection with a merger or acquisition (with notice)

Your Rights and Choices

Access and Deletion

Since we don't store personal data or require accounts, there's typically no personal data to access or delete. However:

• You can clear all local extension data through your browser's extension settings
• Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data
• If you have a paid subscription, contact us to delete your license key from our records

Opt-Out

You can stop using the service at any time by uninstalling the extension. There's no data retention to worry about since we don't store your data.

Region Selection

While we auto-detect your region from your IP address, you can manually override this in the extension settings if you prefer not to use IP-based detection.

Children's Privacy

Recipe Price is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us.

International Users

Our service is operated from Australia. If you're accessing from the EU, UK, or other regions with data protection laws, please note that by using our service, data may be processed in Australia or other countries where our infrastructure providers operate. We handle all data with the same privacy protections regardless of location.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We'll notify users of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For major changes affecting data collection, we'll provide notice through the extension or website.
